Fancy some fresh air and a taste of the countryside just a short distance from the centre of Harrogate?
Then why not hire one of our lovely simple traditional style bicycles (complete with wicker basket for those little treats along the way) and head off along the traffic free Greenway cycle path to the village of Ripley. Following the route of an old disused railway line, the Greenway is a recognised Sustrans route through open fields and over the Nidd Gorge which starts next to the ASDA superstore not far from our location in Harrogate town centre. Ripley is a wonderful little village with its own castle and lake to visit with a café, art gallery, the Boar’s Head pub serving excellent food and ales and of course its own world famous ice cream parlour.
You can also use the same Greenway path to reach the start of the Beryl Burton cycle path which leads down to the River Nidd at Knaresborough opposite Mother Shipton’s Cave from where you can easily explore the delights of this beautiful ancient town with its castle ruins and dramatic railway viaduct way above the river.
Our bikes are simple to use and comfortable to ride with either three or seven gears. They are well able to cope with the slight gradients on the Greenway (honestly there are no steep hills to contend with) and even the slightly harder initial pull out of Knaresborough back to Harrogate. Their upright riding position means you get to enjoy all the beautiful countryside and woodlands as you merrily trundle along the smooth surface of the Greenway which was only completed a few years ago. The pathway is shared with walkers and other riders so always ring your lovely old fashioned bell and they will always appreciate it.
Please Note Our Bicycle Rental Service Closes During the Winter Months from October to March. If you wish to rent a bike during the closed season do still call us or email an enquiry as we may still be able to assist.

How much will it cost and will I need to leave a deposit?

Our rates for 2017 are £15 per bike for up to 3 hours. Longer periods up to 7 hours are £20 per bike. We provide a lock with the bike and request that you kindly use this when leaving the bikes to explore. Please ensure that the hirer brings a piece of identification with a current address and a credit card to enable a pre-authorisation swipe to be taken in respect of the deposit which is £25 per bike. We regret that without these we are unable to rent our bikes.

What should I wear?

You most definitely do not have to wear any cycle specific clothing to ride our bikes. Indeed our bicycles will probably refuse to move if anyone wearing Lycra tries to ride them! Seriously, just wear what you are comfortable in and bear in mind the weather! If it rains you will most probably get wet. Helmets are not compulsory in England and are not supplied as part of the hire charge. You will be mostly away from vehicles so it is entirely up to you to take care for your own safety. If you wish to rent a helmet from us please advise at the time of reservation.

What size are the bikes?

We do not have a large fleet of bicycles but can usually accommodate most adult riders from 5 feet to 6 feet 4 inches. Please tell us your approximate height at time of booking and we will endeavour to allocate the most suitable bike available in our fleet for you. The bikes are traditional style and actually fit quite a broad range of rider sizes in any case.

Do you hire out children’s bikes?

Sadly we do not have the space to store all sizes of bikes and therefore do not rent out bicycles for children. Taller children and young teens can often ride our smaller framed adult bikes so please enquire what frame sizes may be available if you think your child may be able to ride a small adult bike. The child must however be a competent rider.

Do you hire out child seats?

We do have a limited number of child seats available to hire at the rate of £7 per seat. Children must be 12 months old. Parents may wish to bring their own helmet as helmets do not always readily fit very small people. We will do our best to assist but cannot guarantee a perfect fit in every case.
You will need to sign our rental agreement at commencement of the hire. This sets out all terms and conditions of the hire.
We are agents for many of the Cycle to Work Schemes operated by various companies across the country (with the exception of schemes operated by Halfords and Evans) so please enquire if you wish to purchase a bike in this way and we will be happy to help you with the process.
